I just spent the weekend in the north of France with some of Graham's friends at the manoir. I had a really great weekend. Hopefully post some photo's when I get back home.
Spent last week on training in the ealing office. I commuted from egham to ealing each day by train. I started to look like a local by day 3. I do not think I could stay in the UK. It is just sooooo packed. The French countryside is just beautiful. Lovely open fields. A bit depressing to see all the WWI and WWII war graves, but even they make France seem more human.
Got a lift from JJ and Mariane?? to Paris yesterday. They are next door neighbours to David and Karen who own the manoir. Took a taxi from where they dropped me off to the hotel. The evergreen at first did not have my booking. Discovered the booking had been made for October instead of September. They managed to put me up for the night but I have to find a new hotel for the next three days. I had to pay Euro 200 for the room. R1600 for a hotel room!!!!
Spoke to Laurie last night which was great. I have managed to keep sane by having family around for the last week. The next few days are not going to be as easy. Foreign city, different language.
I can't believe the power failures that Jhb has been having. It's bloody ridiculous.
I got to see my good friend Len on Wednesday night. I was like we had seen each other the week before but it has actually been 7 years!
Spent Thursday night with Inge and Mike and Audra. That was fun. Sad news about Mike & Inge's baby. I guess being in the UK will make fixing the cleft a lot easier. Clearly they will have to spend much longer in the UK than they probably planned.
Going under the channel using the chunnel was unfortunately a little bit of a non -event. Drive into a train. Get going and come out on the other side about 20mins later. You're in France.
